Weekly Update 4/28

Thank you so much for showing support at the Walk for Hope yesterday!  Our squad’s presence was greatly appreciated by all involved. 

UCA STUNT CLINIC: We will be attending the UCA Stunt Clinic at Liberty High School on Saturday, May 17th from 12:30-5pm.  The cost is $25/person due upon arrival.  Please let me know if you are unable to attend. 

CAMP: Reminder that the camp balance ($200) as well as the money for camp clothes ($80) are due May 6th!

SUMMER SCHEDULE: The summer schedule is now on the blog (www.parkhillcheer.blogspot.com) .  Any changes to the schedule will be announced  at least 2 weeks prior.  These changes may include (but are not be limited to) choreography times in early June as well as added night practices on Monday’s and Wednesday’s in July leading up to regionals.  We will print off these schedules and hand them out at practice this week. 

FUNDRAISING: We kicked off our first fundraiser last Thursday.  We will be selling cookie dough and butter braid frozen pastry dough.  Ask neighbors, family, friends, teachers, co-workers, etc!  Let them know that the money will be used to help lower the cost for you to participate in cheer this year J.  Usually, if people are aware of what the money raised goes towards, they are more willing to buy. 
All cheerleaders have an order form (if you lost yours, I have extras in room 515).  Each product sells for $12, and $5 of that will go back to the cheerleader.  Remember, this is an individual fundraiser, so anything you sell will go directly towards lowering YOUR cost for cheer this season.  The order forms will be collected Thursday, May 8th at practice, and the orders will be delivered Tuesday, May 20th at practice.

Walk for Hope = Success!

Walk for Hope

I had a few questions brought to my attention that I wanted to clarify.  Sunday is at the PHHS track by the football field. Let’s plan to meet at 1:50pm.   The walk is from 2-4pm.  We  want the cheerleaders to wear red shorts and a white Trojan shirt.  If you wear a bow it must be red, white, or black (for those of you who cheered in the past, one of your bows from last year will work.)   The walk is rain or shine! It is raining plan on meeting at the high school in the upper gym.

On another note: 

For those of you who have cheered in the past.  Addiction Cupcakes in Zona Rosa has been wonderful to us through sponsorships.  They decided to close their doors, as the rent at Zona is sky high.  Saturday is the last day they will be opened.  If you are in the area and can stop by to purchase a cupcake or just to say thanks from PHHS Cheerleading that would be greatly appreciative!  I am going to try to get over there to give them a thank you card! J

Fundraising

Just a reminder we kicked off our first fundraiser tonight! Remember this fundraiser is for the cheerleaders own account.  They will receive $5 per item sold.  This can help cut the cost of cheerleading down.    If you or your son/daughter was not at practice tonight they need to meet Coach Simon in her room at 7am tomorrow morning to receive the flyer

Reminders:
  •   If  you do not have a Physical they must be turned in by June 1.  This deadline is quickly approaching.
  •  Be Sure you are checking the website daily- the calendar is being updated constantly
  • Be sure to check the due dates for items purchased- I will add these to the calendar also


Side note: if your daughter needs spanks to go under her uniform please email me.  Depending on the number needing these it may be easier to purchase these on your own. 


Practices have been going great! We are so excited for this season! I am hoping the cheerleaders are enjoying it just as much as we are.  Thank you!

Update Week of 4/21

We are going to get started right away with fundraising efforts for the new season by having a representative from Emch Fundraising (cookie dough sales) come speak with the squad this Thursday towards the end of practice.  This first fundraising will benefit individual cheerleaders, not the squad as a whole.  We will do additional fundraising events that benefit the entire squad, however this one will go to help reduce individual costs (meaning there is no “buyout”).  More information will be provided at the meeting Thursday.  If you have let me know that you will not be able to attend Thursday’s practice, we will meet in room 515 at 7:00am on Friday morning to get you caught up.

At practice last Thursday, we informed the cheerleaders that we were going to attend a UCA Stunt Clinic.  This is a 1-day clinic put on by the same organization that runs the camp we will attend in June.  We thought it would be very helpful for our squad to learn and practice with the UCA staff before school ends.  Since it costs $25/cheerleader, we are not making this mandatory.  If money is an issue, the cookie dough fundraiser is a great way to cut costs on things like this.  The clinic will be held at Liberty High School on Saturday, May 17th from 1-5pm.  We will not need to get a bus, and the $25 registration fee is due the day of the event.  Please let me know if you cannot make it for any reason.

PHYSICALS: If you went to the pre-participation physical this past weekend at South, you will need to bring the forms with you to practice.  Make sure everything is filled out and signed.  If you still have not had a physical done for next season, we will need to have that by June 1st, 2014. 

Walk for Hope: The Walk for Hope is this Sunday, April 27th from 2-4pm at the PHHS track.  Everyone is required to attend unless you have emailed me with an excuse.  Also, if you are planning on making a team to walk (meaning you are paying $$ and filled out the form), please let me know so I can tell Mr. Motta how many cheerleaders we will have to participate in the events.

Week of 4/14 Update

We will continue our conditioning and stunting practices this week on Tuesday (4-4:45) and Thursday (4-5:30). Just a reminder that every cheerleader is expected to be at these practices unless there is a school-related conflict and they have let a coach know in advance. Also, please email me if you are participating in a spring sports so that we know you will be unable to attend.

 Our squad has been asked to participate in the “Walk for Hope” on Saturday, April 27th. This walk is in honor of a former Park Hill student, Hope Corwin, who died of childhood cancer a few years ago. Freshman Exec. and Sophomore Exec. are holding this event to help raise money for teenagers at Children’s Mercy Hospital with cancer. Our part in this will be to participate with other Park Hill teams in competitions and other fundraising events to help raise money for the cause. The event will go from 2-4pm--we will provide more details as we hear of them. Please let me know if there are any conflicts you know of on that day ASAP, but keep in mind this is intended to be a team bonding experience, so we would love to see the entire team there! 

 PHYSICALS: If you will need a new physical for the 2014-15 season, the district will be holding pre-participation sports physicals at Park Hill South on Saturday, April 19th from 9am-3pm. The cost is $20 (see attached flyer for more details). I have attached the MSHSAA “Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation Form” as well if you would like to print this off to fill out prior to the examination.

UPDATE

Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting Thursday night. If you still have questions regarding any of the information you received please let one of us know. I just set up my address book with everyone’s email. I will double check with the cheerleaders on Tuesday if anyone has not received my email. This is the best way to communicate with me during the day. On a side note, I wanted to inform everyone there is a male on our squad, so please remember when addressing the cheerleaders you use appropriate pronouns. Also, he is a part of our team and will be attending and expected to attend all team events. Keep this in mind when planning any team event in the future. If you have any questions or concerns please remember we are always here. I can’t wait to start this wonderful journey with you all this year.

Week of 4/7

This week begins our practices for the 2014-15 season! We will be practicing every Tuesday (4-4:45) and Thursday (4-5:30) until school is out. Practices will be held in the Auditorium foyer (the hallway). Reminder if you are participating in a spring sport at Park Hill, you are excused from these practices unless the other activity is cancelled for any reason. If your son/daughter will not be able to attend any practice, you will need to let one of the coaches know ASAP. Also, if you know of any absences (or partial absences) throughout the remainder of the school year or summer, please email those to me so that I will have that in writing. I know a few of you came up to myself or one of the other coaches at the meeting, but if you could send those dates through email I would appreciate it!
