Winter Break is in sight.... :)

STATE RINGS: You all should have received something in the mail from Josten’s letting you know that the rep will be here tomorrow after school (Simon’s room, 515) to deliver rings.  It is stated also that the ring must be paid for in full in order for you to take it home with you tomorrow.  He is bringing everyone’s ring with him, so you are able to pay for the remainder of the ring if you have not done so already.   

WINTER SEASON: Each girl will have 4 absences throughout basketball season (which usually ends in February).  Events involving a class in school will not count as an absence, however any extracurricular activity interferences will.  The squads will be split up into red and white again.  Look for which squad is cheering on the weekly emails and/or the google calendar.

SICK?: If your daughter is sick and has to stay home from school/practice/game, in order to excuse the absence, we will need to have a doctor’s note.  Unfortunately without a doctor’s note, the absence will count towards one of the 4 absences for the winter season. The winter season will begin with our first basketball game.

Also, if your daughter has not attended 2 or more full blocks of school for any reason, they are not able to come to practice or any games that afternoon/evening (per Mr. Erneste).  Please let me know by email or text if your daughter will or has been absent the day of a practice or game.

10 More Days until Winter Break! :)

We somehow pulled it off and had an amazing turnout for our clinic--we had close to 60 participants!!  Everything went smoothly and the performance at the game last night was great!  Thank you to all who helped to spread the word, it is greatly appreciated!

HOLIDAY PARTY: We will be having our holiday party this year at Hayley Robinson’s house.  It will be a potluck, so each cheerleader should bring a dish to share.  We are also having a white elephant gift exchange, so each girl should also bring a gift with them that costs around $20-$25.  Wear your craziest (or ugliest J) holiday sweater—the winner will get a prize!!

Week of 12/1/2014 Happy December

Keep spreading the word about our clinic so we can get as many participants as possible!!  The flyer is attached to this email.  I am going to talk with the girls tonight at practice to make sure they are recruiting at least 2 participants for the clinic.  As of right now, we have about 8 participants total.  This is a fundraiser to cover the cost for the banquet at the end of the season in March.  If we do not receive any other registration forms within the next 2 days, we may have to cancel the clinic due to lack of interest.  Feel free to pass the flyer along to anyone who may be interested.  You can even share the status about the clinic from our facebook page so that your friends can view it.  PLEASE help us to make this a successful event! 

CHEER CLINIC: Our winter cheer clinic is scheduled for Sunday, December 7, 2014 from 12-4pm.  The cost will be $40 (includes instruction, t-shirt, bow, snacks, and entrance into basketball game).  You will find the flyer for this event attached to this email.  We will send these out to the elementary schools as well as hand them out at Walmart on the 15^th.  The money raised from this cheer clinic will go towards our end of the season banquet.  The girls from the clinic will perform at the girls basketball game the following day, Monday, December 8.  Please feel free to invite anyone ages 3-14 (pre-school to 8^th grade) to attend!

Holiday Party

Hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving with your family! I just wanted to send out the date for our holiday party since I know calendars are beginning to fill up this time of year.  Kelly (Hayley) Robinson has offered to have the holiday party for the girls at her house on Saturday, December 13.  It will be held in the evening (I will get an exact time to you by Monday), and will be doing a potluck style dinner. We are also doing a white elephant gift exchange, so we are asking that each girl bring a gift with them worth around $20.  I will get more details to you on Monday.

Morning Practices

We will be having a morning practice this Thursday from 5:30am-7am.  We need to practice putting our routine together before the assembly next Tuesday, and with basketball practices fill up the gyms after school each day.  I told the girls that we may need to have another practice either Monday morning and/or Tuesday morning depending on how well I feel they are prepared to perform in front of their school (I will let you know after our Thursday practice if that will happen).  I wanted to give you a heads up in case arrangements need to be made regarding transportation.  Please let me know if you have any questions!

It's Still Football Season! WAHOO!!! :)

I am working with the basketball coach to see what morning gym space we can get this week and/or next week.  I will keep you updated as I know more information.

FRIDAY’S GAME: We will be leaving on a charter bus at 2:45pm.  The girls will not need to be called out of class early since school gets out at 2:38pm.  All cheerleaders are to report to Coach Simon’s room right when the bell rings.  It will take us close to 3 ½ hours to get there, so we need to leave right away.  We will return to Park Hill after the game, so plan on picking up around 12:30-1am.  All cheerleaders need to bring their cheer bag with the following items to school with them: poms, warm up pants, fleece jacket, ear warmer, and anything else they might need to stay warm (black gloves, sweatshirts, hand/feet warmers, etc.).  There will not be any time for people to go home and get things before the bus leaves.  They are welcome to leave belongings that will not fit into their lockers in my room on Friday. 

FOOTBALL DINNER!: We will need a sack dinner for the away game in Nixa this week.  Since we will be leaving right after school, they will need to be brought up to school before 2:45pm.  I have plan during 4^th block, so I will be available to take the food from around 1 until the end of school.  If anyone thinks they would like to help out with this, we would greatly appreciate it!  Thanks to Angel and Josephine for the tacos and brownies last Friday!

FOOTBALL DINNER!: Thanks to Tonya, Dawn, and Jennifer for the potato/chili bar last Friday!  We will need some volunteers to provide dinner for this week’s game on Friday night.  If you are interested, please let me know ASAP and I will get a group together to you are able to communicate with each other on what to bring.  Some ideas that have not been used already: taco bar, sub sandwiches, etc. 

BOARD MEETING: We have been invited to attend the next Park Hill School District board meeting to be recognized for our state championship!  It will be held this Thursday, November 13 @7pm.  We are asking the girls to arrive around 6:45pm since we are one of the first things on the agenda.  Please make sure you dress appropriately!

WALMART: We have been approached by the Walmart’s PR company to participate in an event in which local Walmart’s invite nearby high school cheerleaders to make an appearance.  The goal of this is to connect Walmart with the community, and to promote the great things our local high schools are doing as well.  We will be handing out flyers for the youth clinic in hopes of gaining a wider audience. 

The Walmart appearance is scheduled for Saturday, November 15 from 11-2pm.  We will expect all cheerleaders to attend for the entire time unless otherwise discussed with the coaches.  Please wear your red uniform with white bow (hair in a ponytail).  We will be inside, so you should not need to wear leggings or jackets.

Cheer Update 10/29/2014

Our dinner for this Friday’s football game is going to be at Stone Canyon in Zona Rosa.  The only cost to each girl is $6.00.  The girls can either bring this money with them, or bring it to practice Thursday (10/30).  All cheerleaders should meet at Stone Canyon at 5pm so we can eat and get back to school.  There should be enough older girls to drive people back to school, but if you are uncomfortable with this you are more than welcome to come pick your daughter back up and take her to school around 6pm.

The practice schedule for November is up to date on the blog.  Any and all changes to the schedule will be provided at least 2 weeks in advance so that you are able to resolve any conflicts.  We are trying to schedule practices in the gym closer to the assembly, so watch out for those additions to the calendar.  We will be waiting to see how the football team does to see what gym space basketball can give us. 

We have been approached by Walmart’s PR company to do an appearance for their “Meet Your Mascot Day”.  It is a promotion set up by local Walmart’s to have the local high school cheerleaders come up for a few hours to take pictures, sign autographs, etc. for younger children in the community.  We will be doing this on Saturday, November 15 from 11am-2pm.  We will discuss closer to the date whether we will have the whole squad there at once, or if we can take shifts.  For now, please set aside this time in your schedules.

STATE RINGS: The Josten’s rep is in the process of sending out an invoice to everyone letting you know what you still owe.  If you have not paid the $50 deposit, you can bring that to school this Friday, October 31, when the Josten’s rep is here delivering the sophomore class rings.

Practice has been cancelled this Thursday, October 23.  I am trying to get the ring sizing moved up to 3pm so that the girls can come and get that done right after school gets out.

Weekly Update 10/13/2014

STATE RINGS: I had some interest from parents and girls about getting state rings, so we will have a ring to purchase if you decide you want one to commemorate winning state.  I, along with the seniors, met with a Jostens rep yesterday to design the state rings.  We have 2 designs in the works and will receive the artwork, along with the cost of each hopefully by the end of the week.  Right now, we are thinking they could be anywhere from $150-$225 per ring.  The rep from Jostens is coming to the school next Thursday (10/23) at 4pm to size the girls.  At that time, he will need a $50 deposit (you can also mail this to him by the end of October).  This will act as a down payment and will go towards the total cost of the ring.

I know money can be an issue, and these are not cheap at all, but Jostens does offer payment plans.  He used Staley as an example from last year to help me understand.  They got their rings in January.  He kept any rings not paid for in full at his office until around June which were available for pick up as soon as the ring was paid in full.  A couple girls did not end up picking up their rings, so he just sends them back to the factory to be melted down, and they were only out $50. 

I will send out a picture of what the ring will look like as soon as I get it so that you know what you are paying for.  Each ring will be personalized with the girl’s name, along with “State Champions”, “2014”, and a cheer logo on the side.  You also have the option to get something engraved on the inside of the ring. 

I think it is a great way to commemorate the girls’ win, but please understand this is completely optional. J (this also makes for a great present around the holidays)

WE ARE STATE CHAMPS

HOLY COW!  This past weekend was a mix of many emotions!  Coach Baker and I are SO proud of the girls for all of the hard work they have put in over the past few months.  This was an incredible accomplishment and they deserve every bit of it!  Mr. Erneste acknowledged the state win with a parade yesterday at the end of school with the help of drum line.  The girls had the chance to have the entire school congratulate them and cheer them on as they made their way through the halls.  I have been told that it has been around 14 years since Park Hill has won state in cheer! 

As for the “goodies” the girls will receive as a result of their win…

MCCA gave us a medal for each girl (to either be put on a letter jacket, or pinned on a bag).  I will be handing these, along with the regional medals, out tonight before the game.  PHHS will give them a black letter to go on their jacket acknowledging their state championship. 

Many girls were asking about rings.  I spoke with Mr. Erneste and he explained that the rings were something the parents buy on their own if they would like.  Unfortunately, with the cost being over $200, it is not something the school pays for.  If you would like more information about getting a ring to commemorate the win, please let me know. 

I will attend the next parent meeting to talk more in depth about what we can do for the girls.  I will send an email out for when the next meeting will be as soon as I get that information.  Any and all ideas are welcome for discussion!

The competition will be held at the Hearnes Center on Mizzou’s campus in Columbia, MO.  Admission to get in is $10 per person, per session.  MCCA wants all spectators to be aware that times may vary slightly, so arrive early if possible.

I have a reservation at Chili’s (41 Conley Rd., Columbia, MO 65201) for around 4pm.  Any parents and/or supporters can also eat at Chili’s on their own (will not be at the same table as the squad).  This reservation only includes cheerleaders and coaches.  I would say that the bus will leave around 6pm, which has us arrive in KC a little after 8pm.

FOOTBALL DINNER SIGN-UPS: Thank you Amy Wright for providing the sandwiches and goodies for our away game against Liberty, it was greatly appreciated!  We will be having a pizza party with the Park Hill South cheerleaders this Friday.

STATE: We will be competing in the Missouri state cheerleading competition in Columbia, MO on Sunday, October 5, 2014.  Since that falls on the same weekend as homecoming, we will not be staying overnight.  Coach Baker and I were told at regionals that our division will start around noon on Sunday.  We will be taking buses down for the day, and plan on meeting at the school at 7:30am Sunday morning.  Hair will be done differently than regionals, so a hair party will not be necessary (we will say exactly how when we get closer).  The bus will return later that afternoon (set time will be provided as soon as I know more about the competition schedule).  We encourage and welcome all parents, friends and family to come down to Columbia to support us!  We are requiring that all cheerleaders ride the bus to and from the competition.  I will relay more information as it becomes available.

The outfits for each game/school are listed below with the “events this week” and “events next week” schedules.  The outfit listed for “wear to school” is required for EVERYONE.  The outfit listed for “wear to game” only applies to the squad cheering at that game.  If a bow is not listed for a school outfit, it is not required to wear one.  You are more that welcome to wear a bow to school on those days without one listed, we just ask that it be the bow that will be worn at the game that night.

SICK?: As we have all seen, girls are getting sick left and right lately.  There is something going around school, and from what I have heard, it is unfortunately not going away anytime soon.  If your daughter is sick and has to stay home from school/practice/game, in order to excuse the absence, we will need to have a doctor’s note.  Unfortunately without a doctor’s note, the absence will count towards one of the 4 absences for the fall season.

Also, if your daughter has not attended 2 or more full blocks of school for any reason, they are not able to come to practice or any games that afternoon/evening (per Mr. Erneste). 

FOOTBALL DINNER SIGN-UPS: Reminder that Amy Wright (Ellie) and Terry Imperiale (Tiffany) are putting together the sack dinners for the away game at Liberty this Friday.  Thank you Tonya Slone (and Sherry Panzica for stepping in!) for the enchiladas, they were delicious!

STATE: We will be competing in the Missouri state cheerleading competition in Columbia, MO on Sunday, October 5, 2014.  Since that falls on the same weekend as homecoming, we will not be staying overnight.  Coach Baker and I were told at regionals that our division will start around noon on Sunday.  We will be taking buses down for the day, and plan on meeting at the school at 7:30am Sunday morning.  Hair will be done differently than regionals, so a hair party will not be necessary (we will say exactly how when we get closer).  The bus will return later that afternoon (set time will be provided as soon as I know more about the competition schedule).  We encourage and welcome all parents, friends and family to come down to Columbia to support us!  We are requiring that all cheerleaders ride the bus to and from the competition.  I will relay more information as it becomes available.
